Goddess of the waterfall #37 Review

First off let me start by saying that I really did enjoy this book immensely. If you are looking for a book full of magic spells like in Harry Potter you are barking up the wrong tree! This book is about a girl who is growing up and finding her place in the world. There were so many moments in the book that were very relatable for me. This book would fall more into the autobiographical fiction category.  If you are looking for a book to read that really captures growing up and being gifted, this is the book for you.

So where do I begin? Honestly, my review probably won’t even do it justice.  Right off the bat you will notice that Jewels is a wonderful story teller. The way she describes the characters and their surroundings makes you feel like you are sitting there right in the room with them. I have read other books where it felt like some of the descriptions were thrown in there to fill page space, but I never felt that about this book. It felt like every detail was needed.

The book follows Jewels Delacroix as she maneuvers growing up as a teenager with special gifts. While the book does not shy away from some of the more traumatic experiences Jewels had to endure while growing up such as being tormented by school kids and being molested, it does not overwhelm you with it either. Topics like that can be triggering for some people, but it is done in such a respectful way.  While the book touches on other topics such as religion vs. spirituality, the metaphysical, and growing up being different, you never feel preached at. In fact, reading the book allowed me to reflect on certain topics and my own views about them. There were even times where Jewels would be speaking to an adult and I would find myself agreeing with her out loud! The book really just made me feel like I was going with her on this journey.
