The Witch’s Book of Self-Care by Arin Murphy-Hiscock

4.5 Hoots

Fantastic tips and ideas on how to pamper yourself mind, body, and soul.

As part of my New Years Resolution series I wanted to read books from different perspectives…and I think you can guess which perspective this one is from :). First, let me just say that this picture doesn’t do the cover justice! The metallic colors are beautiful and really set the tone for the magic (no pun intended) that you will find inside. It is so interesting to see different perspectives on self care, but it was exciting to find a book that took the time to suggest something other than going to a spa.

This is the third book in my New Years Resolution series and it is the most different of them so far! The first two books were about changing the way you think and how to set and achieve goals, but this book actually has suggestions for how to actually treat yourself. When I think of self care I always think of a face mask and a good book, but I am always looking for other suggestions. Life can be stressful at times so it is important to find a self care approach that works for you. That is where this book comes in!

One of the things that I loved about this book is that there were more than just rituals! The book itself was broken down into 5 categories: Self care and magic, Mental and emotional self care, Physical, spiritual, and even household self care! Do you need to be pagan to appreciate this book? Not at all! There are a lot of wonderful techniques that this book goes over that are not limited to the pagan path, for example meditation, breathing exercises, aromatherapy blends, and so much more. Guys, there were even some recipes for things like baked macaroni and cheese because food can also be a form of self care! This was mind blowing for me, seriously I have heard of comfort food but never really considered that it can be self care! There is just so much that this little book covers and I am so happy I found it!

Overall, I love this book! The only reason I haven’t given it 5 Hoots is because I haven’t had a chance to try the recipes for food and the body butter recipe yet so I can’t say if they are good. Notice I said YET because I am totally making things from this book. It is a wonderful resource for someone looking for ways to pamper themselves even if they don’t have a lot of time in their day. Again, I had a very narrow view of what qualified as self care before, but now I have so many options! I can’t wait to use more of these techniques in my every day life. If you are struggling with self care you really should try this book!
