The Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Where do I even begin with this one? A young women who was looking to make a little extra cash to help her family sneaks into a study on morality and ethics. Seems like a pretty vanilla topic doesn’t it? Well how about we take it a step further? Jessica begins participating in a study with Dr. Shields but once agreeing to participate it is almost impossible to escape once she realizes that something is seriously wrong. Can she figure out how to save herself?

Okay, so now that you have a basic idea about the book let us dive right in. The character of Jessica is a bit flawed but I think that is why I really liked her. She has this guilt living inside her and she doesn’t even see how it is impacting her life. I believe that was part of why she wanted Dr. Shields to like her so badly. In the beginning of the study she would think about how Dr. Shield would react to situations and try to act accordingly. It wasn’t until she was selected for the face to face portion of the study that she began having some reservations about Dr. Shields and what was really going on, but by that point it was already too late. At this point Dr. Shield already had her trapped in her web and the only thing that could save her was trying to be three steps ahead. But how was Jess supposed to do that when Dr. Shields can predict every move?

Overall, this was a very exciting thriller. Right away you could feel that there was was something a bit off with Dr. Shields and their motivations. Dr Shields really did have every detail figured out, and that was very dangerous for Jess! I found myself nervous that Jess’ family was going to get hurt along the way as well. I even wondered if Dr. Shields was dangerous enough to murder someone directly, I mean a past participant did die under strange circumstances. What added even more unease to the story were the chapters written from Dr. Shields’ perspective. Every time you thought Jess had something figured out you would see that it was just har playing into what Dr. Shields actually wanted. If you are looking for a thriller that will leave you at the edge of your seat, this is the book for you!

Pin this for later 🙂
