This is one of the books that I read a while ago and thought it would be a fun one to share! This was one of the first books that I read from the cozy mystery genre before I knew that was a thing! I remember being so excited to read a murder mystery without having to deal with all of the gory details about the murder! Little did I know at the time that there was an entire genre of books that would give me that happy balance. So let me tell you a little about one of the first cozies that I have read!
Faith is a baker who has always dreamed of having her own bakery. Things finally seem be going in the right direction when her grandmother asks her to move to Florida to help her with the café. She lets Faith rename the café and add her own personal touch even change up what they sell. Everything was great until the owner of the local cupcake shop who was giving her a hard time was found poisoned to death. How was she poisoned? With a cupcake…and everyone was convinced that the cupcake came from the samples Faith gave to her. So of course Faith has no choice but to get to the bottom who really poisoned Joanne before she ends up in jail!
The story is pulled me in right away and the characters were very likeable. Faith’s friendship with Laura was a highlight of the book, it really felt so genuine! There was also the potential love interest but that was not a major focus of this story, it was really balanced nicely. Then of course there was the conflict with the other shop owner! That was perfect! I found myself rooting for Faith and hoping that she could find a way to prove her innocence. All she wanted was to help her grandmother, help the café succeed, and lastly make a name for herself. If she couldn’t prove her innocence everything would be lost. Overall, I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. And the best part was that there was actually a recipe in the back! So if you a looking for a cozy mystery with a sweet twist check this one out.
