trixie and katya’s guide to the modern womanhood by trixie mattel and katya zamolodchikova

Rating: 4 out of 5.

So the last book I am reviewing for #selfhelpsunday is a self help parody book by two of my favorite drag queens! Yes, I get that this is more parody by to be very honest there were a lot of heartfelt moments in this book. If you have never heard of these two I recommend watching some of their youtube videos, just search for Trixie and Katya. If you end up appreciating their humor then this book will be right up your alley. What I love about them is that they are unapologetically themselves and they are sharing some of their fire with their reader.

Tidy the F*ck Up by Messie Condo

Rating: 5 out of 5.

As you know, I have been reading different self help books to try and help my readers find something that will work for them. This book was my favorite because it really told me practical advice that I needed to really let go of some stuff I was holding onto for no reason. Yes, I did read Marie Kondo’s book a few years ago and I will admit it was hard to connect with parts of it. I am not the kind of person that will hold an item and say thank you to it before throwing it away. I just couldn’t connect with parts. BUT the folding techniques were fantastic! I still use those to this day! The thing is, that book didn’t cause me to declutter….this one DID!!!

healthy as F*ck by Oonagh Duncan

Rating: 4 out of 5.

As part of the new year I usually post different types of self help (or self development) book reviews every week. This week we are going to talk about this little gem. Healthy as f*ck takes a no nonsense approach to health and exercise. But I will admit that there were moments the did make me cringe a little. Honestly, at times it reminded me of a mother trying to connect by trying to act “cool.” I think that maybe the book would have been a little better if the author wasn’t trying super hard to be relatable. The information was good and I really think that it didn’t need a gimmick.

Guru by RuPaul

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

In the beginning of the new year I always like to post different books in the “self-help” genre for my readers. The reason for this is that not all self-help books can reach the same person. So, when I saw that RuPaul had a book that fell into this genre I had no choice but to scoop it up. I have looked Ru ever since I was a little girl…I mean look at her! She was bigger than life, so I was excited to give this book a try. Was I disappointed? NO! This book was full of beautiful pictures of her in all her different outfits. Then why didn’t it get 5 stars? Well, I was honestly hoping for a little more in this one.

Once upon a time Bitches by Branden Lanette

5 hoots

Raw. Honest. Intense. This is the kind of book you need to read when you want to make changes but need a reality check.

Where do I even begin? This book was originally selected to be part of my New Year’s Resolution series and I did not expect to have it reasonated with me this much. Branden shares with her readers pieces of her life…the good, the bad, and the ugly, and let me tell you, I wish I knew her in real life!
