Cherry Sinister Murder by Nancy Mcgovern

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is one of the books that I read a while ago and thought it would be a fun one to share! This was one of the first books that I read from the cozy mystery genre before I knew that was a thing! I remember being so excited to read a murder mystery without having to deal with all of the gory details about the murder! Little did I know at the time that there was an entire genre of books that would give me that happy balance. So let me tell you a little about one of the first cozies that I have read!

Cherry Sinister Murder by Nancy McGovern and Cyra Bruce

4.5 Hoots

Delightful and best of all there was a recipe in the back of the book!

Where do I begin? I really thought that this murder mystery book was just delightful! The book revolves around Faith Franklin, a young 20 something who has a love of baking. She has no direction in life until her grandmother asks her to come to Florida and run her café. Faith begins to remodel the café and change-up the menu in preparation for the remodel when suddenly the owner of a cupcake place finds out that Faith plans on having cupcakes at her location too. This might not seem like an issue but later on in the story all the vendors have a meeting and Joann the cupcake lady starts arguing with Faith telling her that she was not allowed to sell cupcakes.

Pumpkin Pie Parting by Addison Moore

3.5 out of 5 Hoots

Pumpkin pie parting is actually book 14 in the Murder in the Mix series, but that should not stop you from picking his book up! Each book is written as a stand alone, but can of course be read sequentially. I will be honest, I have no idea how I stumbled on this book but I am glad I did! This cozy mystery is unlike any other that I have read before. Yes I have read cozies with bakers, pets, and even some with ghosts but this book has all three!

The Whispered Word

5 Hoots!

The whispered word is book 2 of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society series. I finished the first book and loved it so much that I had to pick up the second one. The book revolves around of women who became friends during the first book. They were having their normal get together at Nora’s story when they find a young woman hiding in the store. She was incredibly thin, bruised, and had a hospital bracelet on her wrist. The group offers her a job, shelter, and support but this new addition to their town is reluctant to trust them.

Then a regular from Nora’s bookstore is found dead and is ruled a suicide. But things are not always as they seem, this was not a suicide. This was absolutely a murder and Nora was able to find a connection with their new guest and the murder victim.

Ellery Adams did a fantastic job bringing the women of the secret, book, and scone society together once again for another cozy mystery. I could not put the book down. I was immediately drawn back into Miracle Springs and the calm of the town. Honestly, I would love to live in a town like this and have a group of friends like these women made. When you read this book you get more than just a murder mystery, you get a story about friends, surviving abuse, and just the human condition.

While the murder is clearly the reason why we are graced with a second book, it is just one of the threads that ties this story together. I love the layers that Adams put in this book. You would think that having several story lines going together at once would be confusing but it was honestly so seamless. And they way everything came together at the end was fantastic.

Overall, I really think that this is a delightful cozy mystery and would recommend it.

All Too Familiar by Belinda White

5 Hoots!

Can it be? Did I find another paranormal cozy mystery series that I love? Yes, that is correct! All too familiar is about a bounty hunter/witch who is trying to solve a murder in her town only to find out that the intended victim was actually her aunt. Amethyst (she goes by Amie) needs to find a way to protect her family and find the killer before her or she strikes again! Unfortunately for her she was a witch that barely had any magic but that all changed once she found her familiar…or did it?
